A:虽然预算都是有限,并希望是适当的,但我们重视展览方案本身,展览费用根据项目而定,对于入选的展览方案,我们希望尽力来实施;材料费是展览费用的一部分,基金会有赞助艺术家制作作品的经验,对于入选的艺术家和作品尽力去实施;

Succeeding the sponsorship of “David Diao” (solo exhibition) at UCCA and “Hinterland Project” at Guangdong Times Museum, Frank F. Yang Art and Education Foundation has organized “The Moments of Cynicism and Piety: Collection Exhibition I and II”, and presented the insightful “Micro Curatorial Project” in 2016.
“Micro Curatorial Project” calls for proposals of exhibitions set in “You Space”, loft space for exhibition and working. We hope to see exhibition proposals that can utilize the unique space in presenting a pioneering and experimental spirit. At the same time, “Micro Curatorial Project” allows young curators, artists, art critics and other professionals in the art field to realize their plans of exhibition. Since the project commenced and the open call started online on 26th March, we have received tens of proposals and inquiries from all over the world. In order to offer a clearer picture of “Micro Curatorial Project” and allow sufficient time for preparation, we are providing the floor plan of the exhibition space; also, the deadline of proposal submission has been extended to 15th May, 2016.
Here we would like to share some common questions and the answers to them.
Q: Is substantial experience a prerequisite for the application?
A: This is not a must. It is an “experimental space”. We look forward to your innovative, interesting and creative proposal, which is not bounded by experience.
Q: What information should I provide when I make the application?
A: You only need to provide the following information and relevant explanation:
- curatorial statement: to explain the objectives and the thoughts behind the exhibition
- exhibition set-up plan: to explain the actual execution and space allocation
- budget in list form: to explain the expected cost of the exhibition
- curator’s biography/ curator’s note: to explain the curator’s philosophy and approach in the past
- participating artists’ biography/ artist statements: to make known the artists’ background, as well as the conception and development of their works
Q: May I know whether there is a budget limit for the exhibition proposal and the materials required by the artists?
A: Although budget is limited, and while it is hoped that it is reasonable, our focus would be the exhibition proposal itself. Exhibition cost varies among different projects, and we would try all we can to realize all shortlisted exhibition proposals. Cost of materials is part of the exhibition cost. The Foundation has the experience in sponsoring artists in creating their own artworks, and all along we have been making all the efforts in implementing shortlisted artwork plans of the artists.
Q: What is the actual condition of the exhibition space?
A: You may refer to the floor plan of the exhibition space and photos of past exhibitions available on our official website www.fyfoundation.com for a visualization of the effect when an exhibition is held.
Q: Are the choices available for participating artists of the exhibition limited by geographical factors?
A: What “Micro Curatorial Project” values are the concept and content of the proposed exhibitions. The geographical location of the artists would not be a problem. They can be from China or foreign countries.
Q: Will the artists’ transportation expenses be covered?
A: We will financially support not only transportation and accommodation, but also publicity, artwork production and catalogue publication relevant to the exhibition.
Q: Is there a possibility that the works exhibited will be collected?
A: Exhibited works may be collected. In that case, apart from the production fee, the price of the artwork will also be paid. Artists can have creation with complete freedom.
Q: What is the duration of the exhibition?
A: Starting from the opening ceremony, the exhibition usually lasts for two months.
“You Space” is a cross-disciplinary open platform and experimental space featuring cutting-edge production and inspiring exhibitions. We look forward to your participation!
